Basketball streaming sites: what happened to them, and what to watch instead

Why this page exists

People search for these names by the million, and most of the results are either the sites themselves or thin pages selling a VPN. Neither tells you what actually happened or what to do instead.

The last two years have hollowed the category out. CrackStreams and MethStreams went dark on 30 December 2024, per Front Office Sports, and the largest network of all, Streameast, was dismantled in September 2025 after a year-long investigation, per The New York Times.

What replaced them is mostly clones. Unaffiliated operators reuse a closed site's name to inherit its search traffic, so the thing you find under a familiar brand is usually a different business with a more aggressive advertising stack.

The sites, and the legal route for each

Status reflects what mainstream outlets have reported. Where nothing has been verifiably reported, we say so rather than guess.

What the free route actually costs

The sticker price is zero. The real cost shows up in four places, and every one of them is worse during a game you care about.

• The feed dies at the worst moment. Unauthorized re-broadcasts are taken down mid-game by rights holders. That tends to happen in the fourth quarter of the game with the largest audience, because that is when the takedown is worth the most to the broadcaster.
• The advertising is the business model. These sites monetize through pop-unders, forced redirects and malicious ad networks, because no licensed advertiser will buy the inventory. Running one without a blocker is a genuine device risk.
• Nobody is accountable to you. There is no support desk, no refund, no uptime commitment and no one to contact when a stream is 90 seconds behind the live score.
• Your legal exposure depends on where you live. Enforcement has moved from chasing single domains to dismantling whole networks and prosecuting operators, per The New York Times. Viewers are rarely the target, but ISP-level blocking is now routine across the UK, Italy, Spain and Australia.
